Off We Go

We had a great week at the Missionary Training Center (MTC). We made new friends and were able to see old friends.  It is a very special place where you can feel the spirit of Christ everyday as we prepared to be His servants.   



Right now we are sitting in the Salt Lake City airport waiting for the first leg of our flight going to Atlanta. Then we have a 10 hour flight to Buenos Aires. After landing in Buenos Aires we have to change airports and then fly to Resistencia. We will arrive Tuesday evening around 5:00pm local time. It’s almost 24 hours of travel!   

We won’t be able to communicate for a few days because of our travels but we will give updates as soon as we can.  

This scripture explains perfectly our situation. We met with our mission leaders last night and our casita is not ready yet and we may not have a car for a week or more.   We know we are being led by the spirit and regardless of what happens we know the Lord is guiding us.  


At the MTC taking the obligatory picture in front of the big map pointing to Argentina.  Every missionary take this picture.  It was so fun being there with all of the young missionaries.  We helped connect two missionaries that came from the same area in Juneau, Alaska.  And found a young sister missionary from Japan who is going to Korea and she knows Masumi Goodman. What a small world!

  Map of Formosa.  Each X is a branch or group of church members. We finally made it to Ibarreta in Formosa province, and now it begins (referring to the work of course).  It's only been one week here but it seems like much longer.  As many former missionaries can attest, the days seem like weeks and the weeks like days.  So much happened this week that it's hard to believe it was only one week.   We visited with members in four different areas: Ibarreta, Ensanche Norte, Bartolomé de las Casas, and Estansilao del Campo.  Oh, and a pit stop in Fontana for a baptism.  No, not Fontana, California but a pueblo called Comadante Fontana named after the military leader who founded the city of Formosa.  Most of our work will be with the members living in las colonias (the colonies).  These people are descendants of the original groups that have been in this area of Argentina and Paraguay for centuries.  They are referred to as "origina...

Despedidas and Welcome Home!

  After almost two days of travel we finally made it to our new home in Orem, UT.  As many know, we moved from our beloved home in Hacienda Heights before embarking on our 1 year mission in Argentina and now live in our house in Orem.  Lots and lots of changes have happened and many more to come.  We loved our mission experience and the many friends we made along the way.   Goodbyes Us with Griselda Galvan and her granddaughter Aymar (Estefania).  We spent two days a week with Griselda over the past 3 months teaching her classes to help read and write better and classes in self-reliance.  We will miss her and her family.  This is Carmen. We got to know her over the last year.  She returned to church after several years of inactivity.  She felt a prompting that she needed to come closer to God and responded by returning to church.   Baptism of our friend Mahia It’s been another two weeks as missionaries and we are moving along and getting accustomed to Argentina (for me its getting reacquainted with Argentina).  We’ve learned to cook new food, how to spend the siesta, and most fun and important we are getting to know the members.   Last Tuesday was the baptism of Mahia, a young woman in the Ibarreta branch.  We enjoy spending our time with the youth. They have energy, hope, and faith.  We were able to participate in a few lessons teaching her about the gospel in her preparation to be baptized.  Her dad and younger brother are members of the church but not her mom.  There are three other children in the family, a young brother about 7, and two cousins that are sisters.  These two cousins came to this family under very sad circumstances and one of the girls is almost entirely blind.  Her name is Sophia.  Sophia is a very special spirit.  She is always so positi...
